Mayo Children's Initiative
Primary research into children's experience of living with domestic violence was conducted by the Children's Research Centre in Trinity College, Dublin (Listen to Me! Children's Experience of Domestic Violence, 2006). This formed an evidence base to plan and develop services for children in Co. Mayo.
"One time I came across my eight year old sister...going round the house checking the gas hobs were off because she thought he'd leave them on at night to burn down the house. And that was my eight year old sister, you know...It turns out she'd been doing that for about a month, getting up in the middle of the night to check" (Young person in 'Listen to Me' report 2006)
