Mayo Children's Initiative

MCI is planned and is being implemented on a developmental and incremental basis. Activities are framed across a public health model of primary, secondary and tertiary levels of intervention. Mayo Children's Initiative is informed by a belief in the right of children and young people to live free from violence/abuse in their own home, school and community, to have their voices heard in their own right and to have their needs met in a way that is appropriate to their stage of development.

Mayo Children's Initiative

  • Provides direct interventions to children and young people through the delivery of a school-based programme, ' Protective Behaviours' in post-primary and primary schools in Co. Mayo.
  • Works with parents to support their parenting capacity.
  • Raises awareness in the community and provides information in relation to domestic violence and family conflict leading to an increase in knowledge in relation to everyone's right to live free from violence and abuse.
  • Raises awareness in the community about the impact of Domestic Violence/Family Conflict on children and young people.
